Parents
"In the formation of character, no other influences count so much as the influence of the home. The teacher's work should
supplement that of the parents, but is not to take its place. In all that concerns the well-being of the child, it should be the
effort of parents and teachers to co-operate."
What Parents Should Know
Classroom Visitation
Parents are encouraged to be active participants in the classroom. In order to keep disruptions to a minimum, we do ask that all classroom
visitations be cleared in advance through the office.

Student Medication
Medication that is to be administered during school hours is to be taken to the office with written instructions. This policy applies
to prescription as well as over-the-counter medication. Medication must be delivered in the original container bearing the pharmacy
label with all pertinent information on it, most importantly the student’s name. Students will not be given any medication
unless it is accompanied by a signed note from the parent. Please hand deliver medication to the office.

Grading
The teachers use our standard progress report card to evaluate each student’s
abilities in various subjects. K-2 use the E & S symbols, and grades
3-8 use the A-D, F, I symbols to reflect the performance of each student.
Every two weeks, teachers will send home a progress report, and after the
ninth week a report card will be sent home. Some teachers will send home
a weekly progress report.

Testing
All children grades 3 through 8 are given the Iowa Test of Basic Skills
in October. It is used to evaluate student’s achievement as it relates to national norms. It helps the parent and teacher to
see areas of strength and concern for each child. This test also allows us to see how our school, and each individual child, compares
to the nation as well as our own schools. All new students entering our school will be required to take a basic proficiency test in
Reading and Math.

Field Trips and Car Insurance
The school does not own or operate a van or bus, so transportation is always
provided by volunteers who will car pool. School policy requires that you
have at least $15,000/30,000 per person/bodily injury; $10,000 property
damage; $5,000 medical payments; and proof of insurance on file in the
office before transporting students. This is for the protection of other
students who may ride with you. By state law each student must have access
to and use a seat belt.
